Goalie System 1: Designated Leader

Goalie Preliminary Moves, Vision & Quick Decisions.
Purpose
When the ball moves into the front-court, goalies perform predetermined moves to reduce indecision and leading to the same space. In this variation, a designated goalie always leads, regardless of which side the ball is approaching from.

  • Setup

    Choose {GA - GS] and defending [GD - GK]. Two feeders [WA - C] are 2m apart. Defenders start on the sidelines.
  • Step 1

    Starting just in front of [WA], [C] leads directly down-court before dodging EITHER left or right
    [C] receives near (1 or 2)
  • Step 2

    Now enact your goalie system for the next pass. The designated goalie leads.
    The other goalie should make a backup lead, in case the primary target is covered
  • Step 3

    [C] finishes with the pass to the goalie in best position.
    Optionally take a shot if within range, or make a final pass to the other goalie.
  • Step 4

    Feeders swap roles next turn.
    Remember to mix up the side of the court the final pass comes from
  • Step 5

    Progression 1: For a moderate difficulty increase, introduce a [WD] defender who the deeper feeder must shake before receiving
    You can make this less difficult by having an additional attacker who makes this a 2-on-1 contest.
  • Step 6

    Progression 2: The real test - introduce circle defender(s) who apply pressure to the goalies
    Make it easier by just introducing a single circle defender to start with
    Make it harder by also having the [WD] defend the up-court feeder
