In-court Lead Chain

Purpose
Leading hard and taking the ball in front is performed by all players in quick succession.

  • Setup

    Players are spaced evenly down a sideline, mark 5m lines in-court for each.

  • Step 1

    (A) runs their line from (1 to 2), receiving the pass from coach on (2)

  • Step 2

    When catching , (A) must land with good footwork so they can continue speedy delivery.

  • Step 3

    (B) times their lead so (A) has time to steady and pass
    (A) mustn't wait for (B) to arrive at (2) due to a slow lead
    (B) mustn't lead too early and be caught waiting flat-footed for (A)
    After passing, players return to (1)

  • Step 4

    The pattern continues in this fashion, with all players running from (1) and receiving at (2) from the previous player in quick succession.

  • Step 5

    Once the final player is reached, briefly pause until all players have returned to (1). Now work back the other way.
    Another coach/injured player required to feed to first player.

  • Step 6

    Progress by widening the distance between players, making the pass more difficult.
