Roll Past a Defender

Practises the skills of rolling-off & rolling-around a defender

  • Setup

    Split into groups of 3 of similar stature; groups choose attacker (A), defender (B) and feeder (C). Cones (1 & 2) are 3-5m apart, the feeder is about 5m away with a ball.

  • Step 1

    (A) runs back and forth between cones (1) and (2) while shadowed by (B) who takes a facing defensive stance
    (A) must keep their eyes on (C) all the time

  • Step 2

    At some stage during one of their runs between (1 & 2), (A) attempts to slip past (B) and receive from (C) by performing either:-
    a roll-off
    a roll-around

  • Step 3

    Choose whether to allow defender to simply apply delaying pressure, or intercept.
    Or you can allow interceptions as a progression

  • Step 4

    Rotate players after (A) has 3 turns at rolling-off/around
